Silver Falls State Park — Cultural Interpretation & Place-Based Retail Design

This collection was designed as a place-based retail concept inspired by Silver Falls State Park, with a focus on capturing the culture, rhythm, and defining experiences of the park. Known as the “crown jewel” of Oregon’s state parks, Silver Falls offers a rare intimacy with its landscape—where visitors move behind waterfalls, follow moss-lined trails, and experience the Pacific Northwest in its most immersive form. The goal was to translate that sense of movement, texture, and discovery into a cohesive line of products that feel grounded in the park’s identity.

The product system centers on the park’s most iconic and repeatable experiences—walking the Trail of Ten Falls, standing behind South Falls, navigating dense forest corridors, and encountering water as a constant presence. Each piece is designed to reflect a specific interaction with the environment, allowing visitors to reconnect with the moments that defined their visit. The collection emphasizes natural tones, tactile simplicity, and strong visual cues tied to the park’s geography, creating items that feel both authentic and enduring.

Beyond individual products, the concept extends into a broader storytelling framework that could support in-store presentation and interpretation. This approach reinforces the cultural and environmental significance of the park while maintaining a clean, retail-ready execution. The result is a system that captures the essence of Silver Falls—immersive, grounded, and distinctly Pacific Northwest—transforming everyday retail items into meaningful extensions of the visitor experience.
